Port Services from Ship to Shore

Ship to Shore are the specialist port division of the Solutions group

Ship to Shore have been operating since 2000 and are the main supplier of temporary labour in the Ports in the North East. With access to first class training facilities, Ship to Shore trains and places port operatives across the full spectrum of port logistics roles.   We have ongoing contracts with all North East Ports, including Port of Blyth, Seaham Harbour, Sunderland, Port of Tyne, Hartlepool and Teesport; in addition to supplying ports further afield.   Our specialism is cargo handling but we also provide riggers for onshore barge movements and heavy lifts in addition to providing warehousing and specialist services for our clients.

Roles We Cover

We supply cargo supervisors, stevedores, heavy plant operators and warehouse operatives to all our clients.  Skills we can recruit and train for include loading shovel, mustang, terminal tractor, stackers and FLT up to 32 tonnes.  In addition we have also supplied 8 wheel tippers, telescopic handlers, overhead & harbour crane operators and 360 drivers.  Our workers handle a variety of break bulk, solid bulk and project cargo at all the mentioned sites on a regular basis, which include steel products, forest products and heavy lifts.  Many of our workers have attained level 2 in NVQ port operations and other disciplines.

Quality Assurance

All of our workers are trained to minimum industry standards. We have an in-depth training induction programme which includes a 3-day in-house induction and a 2-day slinger/banksman course. The induction includes Port Safety Awareness, International Ship & Port Facility Security Training, Manual Handling, Face Fit Test & Hazardous Cargo Awareness and a Hatchman Responsibilities Course.  The two-day Slinger/Banksman course is conducted externally by nationally recognised instructors. All new starters must undergo a minimum standard of training which consists of both in-house and externally provided training courses.  In-house courses provided by S2S include Port Safety Awareness, ISPS training and Manual Handling.  All new starters then complete a Slinger/Banksman or Rigging course before we commence employment.

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT INCLUDES:

A basic lift, must show that task has been planned, risk assessment carried out and lift completed in a safe manner and in line with original instruction.

Slinger Banksman / Rigging

Industry standard requires individuals to complete a 2-day novice course, these are provided by external training centres.  All accredited nationally recognised courses are accepted such as NPORS, OPITO, ITSSAR.  We can also utilise a training provider for in house courses which is provided by ITSSAR approved instructors.

Hatchman Awareness                                                          Type: Classroom & Practical

This is provided by S2S as an awareness of hatch responsibilities for semi experienced stevedores, it also acts as a refreshment of procedures and legislation following their initial training.  Content includes:

Service Levels

Our management team are industry specialists, holding IOSH and NEBOSH qualifications; we are experienced assessors / instructors able to provide industry relevant qualifications and consultancy both internally and commercially.  We run a 24/7 operation, whereby our clients can contact a member of management at any time.  All the work we do is scheduled in line with shipping; typically, all bookings & manning of shifts are completed on a day to day basis, with the exception of some weekends.
